In order to improve the performance of materials during precision parts processing, improve the cutting performance of materials and eliminate the internal stress of workpieces, some heat treatment procedures should be properly arranged during the processing. The arrangement of heat treatment processes in the process route mainly depends on the material of the parts and the purpose of heat treatment.
When performing heat treatment processes, pay attention to the arrangement time of the processes.
- Preliminary heat treatment. The purpose of preliminary heat treatment is to improve the cutting performance of materials, eliminate residual stress during blank manufacturing, and improve organization. Its process position is mostly before processing, and commonly used methods include annealing and normalizing.
- Eliminate residual stress. Since the internal stress generated during the manufacturing and processing of the blank will cause the workpiece to deform and affect the processing quality, heat treatment must be arranged to eliminate residual stress. The best arrangement of heat treatment to eliminate residual stress is after rough processing and before finishing. For parts that do not require high precision, artificial aging and annealing are usually performed before the blank enters the processing workshop to eliminate residual stress. For complex castings with high precision requirements, two aging treatments are usually arranged during the processing: casting-rough processing-aging-semi-finishing-aging-finishing. For high-precision parts, such as precision screws, precision spindles, etc., multiple heat treatments should be arranged to eliminate residual stress, and even ice cold treatment is often used to stabilize the size.
- Final treatment. The purpose of final treatment is to improve the strength, surface hardness and wear resistance of parts, and it is usually carried out before precision parts processing (grinding). Commonly used are quenching, carburizing, nitriding and carbonitriding.
Therefore, in the process of mechanical parts processing, in order to improve the mechanical properties of mechanical parts, the parts need to be heat treated to ensure that the processing quality meets the product use requirements.
